DBA II/67b Early Ostrogoths

Here's my early Ostrogoth army (200 AD - 493 AD).

Basically Ostrothic tribes until the reign of Theodoric the Great starting in 493 AD.

Its main differentiation from the DBA II/65 Visigoths lists is that it these guys are cavalry focused while the Visigoths are more warband oriented.

This is a very restricted list of exactly 12 elements, 6 each of Noble cavalry (3Kn) and archers (Ps), making for an interesting army on the table.

Half the army is pretty powerful but potentially too impetuous for its own good while the other half is flexible and potentially very useful but vulnerable in the open. I foresee some interesting battles ahead for these guys.

The army, being pretty small - only those 12 elements and all -  got painted pretty quickly. The shields were, of course, the fun part of the painting process.

The noble cavalry figures are from Irregular Miniatures. They were good figures to paint with nice large shields for decorating but are really probably from a later period than this one. Just look at their shields not their armour.

These archers are mainly Essex Miniatures with a couple of Museum Miniatures sneaking in.

This is the baggage camp. The figures are one each of
Tin Soldier and Museum Miniatures.

Featherstone Fighting Factor: 30 - The Goths? Meh!

Game-changers but…

Donald says that the Goths may have helped revolutionise heavy cavalry warfare but otherwise they were largely vanilla.

What’s this Featherstone Factor all about?

Find out here.
