“There, where I have passed, the grass will never grow gain,” fun guy, that Atilla. In the 4th century C.E. the Huns, led by their horse mounted warriors, spread westward.
Formed on the backbone of their mounted warriors these unarmoured horse archers, were the cruel masters of energetic, disciplined hit-and-run tactics which made increasingly ill-disciplined infantry like the Roman legions all the more vulnerable.
Anyway, here is my freshly minted Hunnic army. It covers all the options for DBA II/80ab (Atitta’s army and the Sabir army). I painted this army by stealth - that is I added a few Hun figures here and there as I painted my Late Romans, Ostrogoths, Visigoths and Achaemenids.
For example, I just painted an extra stand or two of warband as I painted the Gothic armies. It worked out okay in that painting the other armies wasn’t particularly slowed down while the Huns gradually came together.
Here are all three of the CinC options for the various versions of the hunnic armies.
(L-R) Warband, Cavalry and Light horse
Featherstone Fighting Factor: 47
The Huns? Wow they’re good!
What with their terror and ferocity who can stand against them? They’re one of the best of those pesky horse archer armies.
