Full Thrust - Camerone Heavy Fighters

I wanted to finish off my federal Stats Europa (FSE) space navy fleet for Full Thrust. It’s another project that has been around for many years. The larger vessels are finished except for a few in a box of models, FSE and others, I must have bought as a job lot. I’ll see how my enthusiasm holds up for those ones.

Anyway, here we’ve got a bunch of FSE Camerone class heavy fighters from Ground Zero Games. Most of the other fighters that I’ve painted have been in brighter colours but I decided to make these a bit on the dark side.

Mid grey followed by Nuln Oil and some highlighting.

Above: This photo shows my starting steps. A black undercoat followed by a Mid grey base coat (Matisse Mars Grey). Nuln Oil wash x 2 and finally, a mid grey highlight of cockpit, fuselage and top of engine area.

Dark blue trims

Above: I’ve used a dark blue (Matisse Background - Capitol Blue) for the edges of the wings, the tailplane and the whole of the underneath of the fighters.

Due to public demand for some go-fast red striping, I decided to paint the eight stands as two squadrons of four.

Wazdakka Red stripes

Orange stripes

I then highlighted the pink and orange stripes & edged the dark blue tailplanes etc.

Yellow highlighting

Above: Next I edged the dark blue areas with a light blue. It’s a lot easier to use the side of the brush rather than the tip to do this.

I then decided to give the cockpit screen/nose a brighten.

A dash of light grey
Above: I did this with a little dash of the lightest grey I could mix

Red on the engines

Above: Next I put two little dots of red to add a bit of a glow to the engines.

Before the Nuln Oil

After the Nuln Oil

Above: The final step on the fighter models themselves was to put a little Nuln Oil on the underneath of the fighters, avoiding the wing edges.

With a quick tidy up of the bases and the pins holding up the fighters with some black and a final clear coating and the Cameron Heavy fighters are complete and ready for service.
